What to check before buying a kitten in the UK
- Kittens should be at least 12 weeks old before rehoming (8 weeks is the legal minimum, but reputable breeders wait longer)
- View the kitten with its mother at the breeder’s home — never accept delivery of a kitten you haven’t seen in person
- Ask for vaccination records and confirmation of flea/worm treatment
- Check the breeder’s licence number against the issuing local authority if in doubt
- For pedigree kittens, ask for GCCF or TICA registration papers
