Important — UK Legal Requirements for Bird Ownership

African Grey parrots are listed under CITES Appendix I — they can only be legally sold if captive-bred and accompanied by an Article 10 certificate issued by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA). Always request this document from the seller before purchasing
Macaws and Cockatoos are CITES Appendix II — sellers must be able to demonstrate legal acquisition
All commercial bird sellers must display a valid local authority licence number in their listings
Birds should come with a hatch certificate, ring number, and up-to-date health records
Never purchase a bird offered with international shipping of eggs or live animals without verified CITES export permits — this may constitute illegal wildlife trade
